Trancoso
Trancoso was originally an ancient jesuit village called Sao Joao Batista dos Indios, which was founded in 1586.
In the 70s it was rediscovered by young people searching for an alternative life, who found a natural paradise still inhabited by native people, descendants of the Pataxos indians.
Little by little, people from all over the world, like artists, craftsmen and musicians, arrived searching for inspiration in the magic of the place.
Nowadays, after being declared historic patrimony by the UNESCO, travellers choose Trancoso for its exuberant beauty, nature, peace and kilometres of heavenly beaches.
The ¨Historic Square¨, centre of the village, offers a great variety of bars, restaurants, colourful shops and art galleries. Above all, ¨Sao Joao Batista¨church stands out and it invites us to travel back in time.
